Church Building Update – Early November

Bethesda Walled Area With Stone

The roofing project is drawing to a close with the completion of dormer woodwork (which required the interior scaffolding) on Friday, November 4th. Rotted sills and some of the window trim have been replaced and painted. The final phase is installation of the clerestory windows by Lamb Studios and will begin on Monday (November 14th). The windows will be installed from the exterior with a lift and should not be as disruptive or messy as the woodwork repairs. The windows installation is expected to take several weeks and if the weather is warm enough, exterior protective glass will be installed. Natural light will be restored to the nave and the windows put back in place just in time as the cold weather arrives.

We are still waiting for the fabrication of the new fire stairs to be completed and we expect installation shortly. The refinished door leading out to the fire stairs has been hung and the restored stained glass will be installed next week. Significant work has taken place in the walled-in area behind the church to improve drainage with the removal of the old concrete with stone as well as clearing dirt and debris from a storm drain. New gutters and downspouts will also drain storm water away from the church. The door on the east side of the wall will be replaced with a new door as well.

The wheelchair lift has been out of service for several weeks and replacement parts have been ordered. Repairs to the lift are being scheduled and we expect to have it back in service soon.
Next spring our cooling system will be replaced with new air handlers and a new chiller.

Thanks to everyone for their patience during these necessary renovations.
