Holy Scripture has always been the center of Anglican life and belief. This class will look at how the Church has read Scripture, with a particular emphasis on the Prayer Book tradition, in order to understand the place of Scripture in the Christian life. Each week we will look at important passages within the context of the Bible as a whole, and address difficult questions and viewpoints in order that we may faithfully “hear, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest” the Word of God.
4 November: Introduction to a theology of Scripture
11 November: How the early Church read Scripture
18 November: The Reformation and Anglican view of Scripture
2 December: Holy Scripture and the Modern World
