SUMMARY:The Fourth Sunday in Lent: Laetare Sunday
DESCRIPTION:This is the fourth of five Sundays in Lent before Palm Sunday\, which marks the beginning of Holy Week. This Sunday is called Laetare Sunday\, which literally means “rejoice”. \nLaetare Sunday serves as a reminder that in the midst of this long penitential season of Lent — even unto the midst of our own self-inflicted\, wayward suffering — Christ came not to condemn\, but to save\, if only we turn to him. \nCollect: Gracious Father\, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which giveth life to the world: Evermore give us this bread\, that he may live in us\, and we in him; who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit\, one God\, now and for ever. Amen. \nAppointed Readings: \n\nNumbers 21:4-9\nPsalm 107:1-3\, 17-22\nEphesians 2:1-10\nJohn 3:14-21\n\nWorship for the Fourth Sunday in Lent\n \nSunday 8am\, Sunday 10am \nAbout the Image\n \nA portion of Return of the Prodigal Son (c. 1661-69)\, Rembrandt \nResources \nParking and Accessibility\nGive via PayPal or Credit Card

SUMMARY:Palm Sunday (The Sunday of the Passion)
DESCRIPTION:The priest\, when blessing the palms on Palm Sunday\, is directed by the 1979 Book of Common Prayer (page 271) to say\, “It is right to praise you\, Almighty God\, for the acts of love by which you have redeemed us through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. On this day he entered the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph\, and was proclaimed as King of kings by those who spread their garments and branches of palm along his way. Let these branches be for us signs of his victory\, and grant that we who bear them in his name may ever hail him as our King\, and follow him in the way that leads to eternal life; who lives and reigns in glory with you and the Holy Spirit\, now and for ever. Amen.” \nThat “way that leads to eternal life” will take Jesus through persecution\, brutality\, trial\, conviction\, abandonment\, and death on a cross before he comes out the other side\, victorious\, on Easter Morn. Let there be no confusion\, then\, regarding the reason Palm Sunday is also called The Sunday of the Passion. \nCollect: Almighty and everlasting God\, who\, of thy tender love towards mankind\, hast sent thy Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our flesh\, and to suffer death upon the cross\, that all mankind should follow the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may both follow the example of his patience\, and also be made partakers of his resurrection; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord\, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit\, one God\, for ever and ever. Amen \nAppointed Readings: \nLiturgy of the Palms: \n\nPsalm 118:1-2\, 19-29\nMark 11:1-11 or John 12:12-16\n\nLiturgy of the Word: \n\nPsalm 31:9-16\nIsaiah 50:4-9a\nPhilippians 2:5-11\nMark 14:1-15:47 or Mark 15:1-39\, [40-47]\n\nWorship Schedule for Palm Sunday\n \nSunday 8am\, Sunday 10am \nAbout the Image\n \nJesus enters Jerusalem\, relief in stone on the west facade\, Orvieto Cathedral\, Italy (c. 1310-31) \nResources \n1979 Book of Common Prayer\nParking and Accessibility\nGive via PayPal or Credit Card

SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday
DESCRIPTION:On Maundy Thursday\, the Church commemorates the Last Supper that Jesus ate with his disciples before his passion and death. In the 1979 Book of Common Prayer\, attention is given to the words of Our Lord on this very night\, as recorded in John 14 and 15: \n\nThe Lord Jesus\, after he had supped with his disciples and had washed their feet\, said to them: Do you know what I\, your Lord and Master\, have done to you? I have given you an example\, that you should do as I have done.\nPeace is my last gift to you\, my own peace I now leave with you; peace which the world cannot give\, I give to you.\nI give you a new commandment: Love one another as I have loved you.\nBy this shall the world know that you are my disciples: That you have love for one another.\n\nCollect: Almighty Father\, whose dear Son\, on the night before he suffered\, instituted the Sacrament of his Body and Blood: Mercifully grant that we may receive it thankfully in remembrance of Jesus Christ our Lord\, who in these holy mysteries gives us a pledge of eternal life; and who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit\, one God\, for ever and ever. Amen. \nAppointed Readings: \n\nExodus 12:1-14a\nPsalm 116:1\, 10-17\n1 Corinthians 11:23-26\nJohn 13:1-17\, 31b-35\n\nWorship Schedule for Maundy Thursday\n \n7pm Maundy Thursday Liturgy (Note the church remains open until 10pm for private prayer.) \nAbout the Image\n \nThe Last Supper\, Ugolino de Siena (c. 1325-30) \nResources\nService Bulletin \nParking and Accessibility\nGive via PayPal or Credit Card

SUMMARY:Good Friday
DESCRIPTION:On Good Friday\, the Church commemorates the suffering of Jesus on the Cross\, and his death. This event brings us into the heart of the Christian Gospel: when given a choice between God and themselves\, the powers of this world choose themselves. If the Cross was the last word\, it would mean the death of God. But stay tuned. God has the first and last word\, and through him\, death is defeated once and for all. For Christians\, therefore\, the Cross is a symbol of the death of death. \nCollect: Almighty God\, we pray you graciously to behold this your family\, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed\, and given into the hands of sinners\, and to suffer death upon the cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit\, one God\, for ever and ever. Amen. \nAppointed Readings: \n\nIsaiah 52:13-53:12\nPsalm 22\nHebrews 10:16-25 or Hebrews 4:14-16; 5:7-9\nJohn 18:1-19:42\n\nWorship Schedule for Good Friday\n \n12 noon Liturgy for Good Friday \nAbout the Image\n \nA portion of the central panel of The Elevation of the Cross\, Peter Paul Rubens (1610-11) \nResources \nParking and Accessibility\nGive via PayPal or Credit Card
