The Nine Tailors, by Dorothy Sayers (1893-1957) is one of the most beloved of all English detective novels. Sayers was also known for her brilliant intellect, Anglican theology, and feminism, which ring as forcefully today as the eight bells of Fenchurch St. Paul, the site of The Nine Tailors: a brutal murder is discovered in an small parish churchyard. Lord Peter Wimsey is called to assist.

Immerse yourself in Sayers’ witty portrayal of the arcane language and practice of English church change-ringing, Transitional versus Perpendicular church architecture, and English village social life and ‘civility’.
