After several months of deliberation and discussion, the Vestry and Wardens have authorized and conveyed a letter to Shelters of Saratoga (SOS) proposing that our two organizations promptly explore the feasibility of meeting the need for emergency shelter and other programs to serve the community’s homeless population at Bethesda’s New Parish House and Community Center.
A copy of the letter and media release may be accessed here:
To give members of the parish every opportunity to learn more, Dean Vang has scheduled a “question and answer” time after the 10 a.m. service on Sunday April 22 for all who wish to participate.
As you may know, SOS has proposed building a new facility near their existing shelter on Walworth Street. The proposal has attracted opposition from neighbors, and is likely to be in court for an indefinite time. This controversy will prevent Saratoga Springs from conclusively establishing this long-needed service to the less fortunate members of our community. In keeping with our Christian tradition and scriptural direction, we have decided to explore whether Bethesda’s location would meet the need and potentially unite community sentiment.
Please give this information your attention and consideration, and we look forward to our parish discussion on April 22.
