The “Sacred Sites Open House Weekend”  Celebrates the Art, Architecture, and History of New York’s Diverse Houses of Worship.

The Landmark Conservancy’s seventh annual “Sacred Sites Open House” is when religious institutions throughout New York State open their doors to the public, giving visitors a glimpse inside many of New York’s remarkable churches and synagogues and an opportunity to view the artistic treasures housed in these wonderful sacred sites. Over 170 religious sites statewide will participate in the weekend. Congregations will also showcase the cultural and social service programs they provide to the wider community with special tours, concerts, food fairs, and other events. This year’s theme, Stained Glass: Windows on this World and the Next will highlight the extraordinary works of American stained glass masters, as well as prominent European artists and studios that can be discovered in these magnificent houses of worship.

Just this month, six of Bethesda’s finest stained glass windows, including three signed Tiffanys, were expertly restored and secured. On-site volunteers will be able to show these fascinating restoration features to visitors and media during the designated times.
